REIDSVILLE, GA (WTOC) – A Tattnall County man is dead and his girlfriend is recovering from surgery in what relatives are calling an attempted murder-suicide.

Tattnall County sheriff’s chief investigator Lt. Kevin Keyfauver said around 11pm Monday, a woman on Joy Bluff Road outside Reidsville called 911 to report shooting inside her home.

Keyfauver said deputies and EMT’s arrived to find Jeanie Herb and Jose Bonilla shot. Herb had been shot three times and Bonilla once. Bonilla died of his wounds.

Herb was taken to Memorial Health and was still in surgery Tuesday morning for gunshots to the face, chest and shoulder.

Keyfauver declined further comment, citing an ongoing GBI investigation.

A man and woman at the home Tuesday identified Herb as their niece and that she and Bonilla lived there with them.

They said the couple were arguing before 11pm when they went to their bedroom. Seconds later they said they heard gunshots in the hall. They turned around to find Herb on the floor.

As they rushed for a phone to call 911, they say they heard another shot and Bonilla fall to the floor.

Man, woman dead in apparent murder-suicide

By Mike Morris

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Two people were killed Sunday night in an apparent murder-suicide at a home in the Thomasville Heights area of southeast Atlanta.

Mark Gilbeau, an investigator with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, told the AJC that Richard Mosely, 66, apparently shot Caroline Holliday, 51, before turning the gun on himself.

Mosely and Holliday, who were roommates in the home on Thomasville Court, both died at the scene following the 7:45 p.m. shooting, Gilbeau said.

Atlanta police investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.

UPDATED 12/76 4:45 P.M.

Authorities received a phone call from a relative who made the gruesome discovery in the bedroom of the couple’s home when she went to check up on the family.

Deputies say Reynolds was a convicted felon and currently under investigation for child molestion.

“There is indication that he let family members know he was upset and that he was going to do something foolish, some family members tried to contact him. A family member did go to his house and find the body but there was definitely something going on,” Decatur County Sheriff Wiley Griffin said.

Authorities say the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services and the Sheriff’s department removed Swords, the son and her two other daughters from the home last week.

They say they’re not sure how or why Swords and the son were back in the house with Reynolds.

Decatur County Deputies say around 8 p.m. Saturday, 42-year-old James Reynolds III shot and killed 31-year-old Tonya Swords and their 7-year-old Son Kahm in his home on 202 County Line Road, then he shot and killed himself.

Deputies say a family member went to check on Reynolds at his home and discovered the three victims’ bodies.

Initial reports show Rogers left Reynolds earlier in the week and was staying in Thomasville. Reynolds picked up his-girlfriend and their son Kahm, and took them back to his home Saturday night.

The investigation is ongoing and we will continue to keep you updated as soon as more information becomes available.
